Hands-on Learning and Facilities

Capstone projects with multidisciplinary student teams and industry mentors and sponsorship.

The projects are open-ended, technically challenging design problems that address a broad array of important contemporary issues. In addition to identifying an important problem, sponsors provide a significant grant and interact directly with the students, faculty, and staff who work to provide design solutions.

The Forge is a student-run makerspace at Rensselaer.

The Forge is open to all members of the club, faculty, and staff to create projects for classes, clubs, personal use, or research. The Forge is supported by the School of Engineering (SoE), the Student Union, and the SoE Manufacturing Innovation Learning Lab (MILL).

Mercer XLab is an intentional space to build innovations, find collaborations, share technical tools.

The Mercer XLabs fosters student tinkering, open-ended design experimentation, and intellectual curiosity by providing access to a dedicated, centralized space to find tools, mentorship, workshops, exploration opportunities harvested from faculty, connections to related RPI programs, and an interconnected learning community.

Robotics Teaching Lab
Robotics Teaching Lab provides space and robots supporting Robotics Engineering courses.

Robotics Engineering students have access to the robotics teaching lab to build, experiment, and test robots as part of the RobE curriculum. Each core robotics course has an experimental project component.
