In the fall of 2021, Dean Shekhar Garde posted an entry in Rensselaer's Every Day Matters blog to share his thoughts on how the world had become a poorer place that summer with the loss of Steven Weinberg, who shared the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work in theoretical particle physics.

Dean Garden posted this Every Day Matters entry to recount the amazing story of Mrunal Sontakke, a young woman who grew up in Kolhapur, India and eventually joined Rensselaer's Howard P. Isermann Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering as a new Ph.D. student and one of the Isermann Fellows.
