Rensselaer and Hudson Valley FLL To Host FIRST LEGO League Robotics Tournament for Elementary and Middle Schools

Troy, N.Y. — Can you think of people and animals as allies in the quest to make life better for everyone? Just ask the 12 elementary and middle school teams from the Capital Region that will compete in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Regional Qualifying Tournament on Dec. 10 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Summer Arch pop-up course: Inventor’s Nightmare

Coming Summer 2017: Students participating in Summer Arch can flex their creativity and develop their innate abilities to innovate. In Inventor’s Nightmare students will develop innovation tools by participating in a case study involving an invention gone awry. Have fun learning and practicing ideation, innovation, and design by developing your own solutions to an inventor’s problem.

Rensselaer Faculty Lauded

Protein engineering expert Peter Tessier, the Richard Baruch M.D. Career Development Professor and Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, was the keynote speaker at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s 2016 Trustee Celebration of Faculty Achievement on Dec. 1 in the auditorium of the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies. The annual event is an opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of Rensselaer’s faculty members.

An Overview of the Fall Rensselaer Orchestra Concert

Troy, N.Y. — Last weekend, members of the Rensselaer Orchestra, under the direction of Nicholas DeMaison, senior lecturer of music in the Department of Arts, presented a concert of works exploring the sublime nature of romantic tragedy. The program took place on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute campus in the Curtis R. Priem Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) Concert Hall on Nov. 19.

Rensselaer Student Organization To Host Third Annual HackRPI Marathon

Troy, N.Y. – Most people think of “hacking” as a computer security issue. But, to the members of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute student hackathon organization, dubbed “HackRPI,” it simply means using technology to develop or create something that’s never been used before, which for students is part of the excitement and challenge. Plans are underway to host the third annual 24-hour “hackathon” event on the Rensselaer campus Nov.12-13.

Rensselaer to host former NASA astronaut Guion Bluford, first African-American to fly in space

Troy, N.Y. – As a mission specialist aboard the space shuttle Challenger in 1983, Dr. Guion S.Bluford became the first African-American to travel into space. He was also the first African-American to return to space for a second, third, and fourth time. Bluford will deliver a lecture titled “Freefall: Flying in Space,” on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute campus on Wednesday, Nov.16.
